Learn to Build Your Own Computer

Jordan Chilson.  This four part series will teach you the skills required to assemble and maintain your own computer.  From a fundamental understanding of computer components to installing Windows, we’ll be covering it. NOTE: Participants are requested to bring their own parts (assistance  will be provided for what/where to buy when you register.)  A limited number of kits may be available to use during the class for free for those who want to learn but don’t need to build a new PC for themselves.  The series will include the following:

Part 1--Introduction to Hardware (1 night)--We will go over the basic components that make up a modern PC, what function they serve and how they work.  Participants will also learn how to shop for and pick compatible components in a cost effective manner.

Part 2--PC Assembly (1 Night)--Like LEGOS for grownups!  Learn how all the pieces fit together to assemble your PC and the steps required to make it happen; we’ll actually be building it!

Part 3--Installation of Windows (1 Night, double length)--You’ve just built your first PC, but it’s useless until you install the Operating System.  We’ll be covering the process of installing and configuring Windows on your new PC so that you can actually begin using it.  This class will last from 6pm-8:30pm.

Part 4--Basic PC Maintenance (1 Night)--Now that you’ve built your first computer, we’ll be covering basic maintenance/troubleshooting skills to keep your PC running in tip top shape.  Topics will include virus removal, hardware diagnosis and system optimization.
